Role purpose
The Procurement Director translates the Procurement Strategy into a vision, strategy and execution plan for Tessenderlo Kerley International and Kuhlmann Europe.
The incumbent is responsible for:
- The Procurement processes within the organization (direct, indirect, raw materials)
- The Procurement Strategy and its alignment within the Group and BU strategy
- The implementation of the Procurement Strategy, implemented in close contact with & support of the main stakeholders from all other departments.
He/ she maintains good contacts with their strategic vendors, suppliers and service providers and stays abreast of external trends and opportunities.
The scope of the Procurement Director concerns business procurement and on the longer term transport and logistics.
The Procurement Director builds and leads the team of the category procurement managers, the raw materials & packaging manager, the local buyer and the administrative support team. In this respect, he/she takes part in hiring, retaining and developing people to create a high performing team.
Key responsibilities
The Procurement Director:
- Creates, leads and executes successful Procurement strategies that ensure a state-of-the-art, stable, agile and cost-efficient procurement operation
- Builds its strategy in concert with peers and key stakeholders, meets the organization where it is today and works towards a shared ‘envisioned future state’
- Ensures the maximum procurement performance by which the local supply chain and operations can perform at their best
- Monitors the progress of results by means of Key Performance Indicators, cascading them down to the local organizations. Steers and corrects where needed
- Develops risk management programs to ensure continuity of supply chain
- Leads a team of Category Procurement Managers and is responsible for the buying of raw materials and Business Procurement spend to gain the lowest TCO and to secure supply
- Install organization that is fit for use
- Develop, lead and execute BU purchasing strategies that create TCO savings and increase efficiency
- Responsible for the key supplier management program and continuously focus on added value
- Continually review market conditions/suppliers for long and short-term cost reductions
- Accountable for the tender agenda and outcome
- Measuring performance and contribution via KPI reporting
- Assess, manage and mitigate contractual risks
- Partners closely with Global S&OP to optimize towards the most cost effective & efficient operations in order to have a balanced demand & supply plan
- Actively builds & leverages external relationships and manages strategic suppliers (direct and indirect)
- Creates a culture of Continuous Improvement
- Foster effective working relations with internal stakeholders & peers
- Provides leadership and coaching towards the team members, hands on where needed to stay connected with the day to day operations
Profile
- Academic master degree, preferably in Supply Chain Management; Technical knowledge of procurement and supply chain processes/ concepts in general
- Minimum of 8 years related work experience in leading procurement position preferably in chemical industry
- Knowledge about procurement of raw materials as well as indirect & direct procurement of goods; Knowledge of TCO Concepts & tendering; SAP/ERP
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
- Success factors & potential derailers: Operations supported within TK International and Kuhlmann Europe (complexity / value); Ability to switch between conceptual work & follow up of daily activities; Influencing of internal and external partners / negotiation skills without formal authority
- Demonstrable leadership skills, strong team orientation and proven ability to communicate effectively in international environment
- Excellent conceptual, analytical and numerical skills
- Strategic thinker and designing concepts that will enable company to develop competitive edge through procurement standards
